Ryan Carson has developed an extensive civil litigation practice in a variety of areas, including catastrophic tort, insurance defense, insurance coverage, commercial, employment litigation, and others. He has represented clients in numerous cases and multi-million dollar lawsuits in state and federal courts across the country, including in Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and as far away as California and New York. Recently, Ryan litigated a catastrophic motor vehicle accident in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in which the plaintiff’s lawyer asked the jury to award $90 million in damages, including punitive damages. Not only did the jury reject that claim and award almost exactly the number that Ryan suggested in his closing argument (and even slightly lower), the jury agreed with Ryan and outright rejected the claim for punitive damages.
In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan has experience with alternative dispute resolution such as mediation and arbitration. He has advocated on behalf of his clients in hundreds of mediations involving a number of different issues. He also has arbitrated several matters with the American Arbitration Association. Ryan works hard for his clients to achieve optimal results and to avoid the cost and expense of trial if at all possible.
After law school, Ryan had the opportunity to serve a two-year judicial clerkship with the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. As a result, he is able to provide his clients with extensive appellate experience should the need arise. This includes identifying key issues for appeal, drafting persuasive appellate briefs, and presenting oral argument to the court. Ryan has participated in both state and federal appellate courts around the country, including the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Missouri Court of Appeals, the California Court of Appeals, the Louisiana Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, and the Colorado Court of Appeals.
Ryan is committed to providing his clients with outstanding legal service and exceptional value. Ryan has achieved his AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is licensed to practice in Nebraska, Colorado, and Illinois. Ryan is also committed to the community and has served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (or CASA). He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for CASA and Junior Achievement of Kearney and is a 2017 graduate of the Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Nebraska Program.
