The Jacobsen Orr Law Firm is celebrating founding lawyer Jeffrey Orr’s 50th year of practicing law. Thirty-nine of those years have been spent at the Jacobsen, Orr, Lindstrom & Holbrook Law Firm, which he co-founded in 1978 with his partner, Jeffrey Jacobsen, now also senior counsel. Orr and Jacobsen met at their University of Nebraska fraternity, and later both of them joined the Tye Law Firm in Kearney. Orr is a 1964 graduate of the University of Nebraska, with a degree in Business and a 1967 graduate of the University of Nebraska Law School.
When asked to reflect on his long-standing career, Orr stated: “The best part has been meeting clients and creating friendships. The firm now represents grandchildren of our original clients.” Orr reminisced how the first Jacobsen Orr law firm office, originally located at 34th and 2nd Avenue, expanded two or three times before moving to its current location at 322 West 39th Street in 1989. Jacobsen Orr now has eleven attorneys practicing in multiple areas, making it one of the largest and full-service law firms in Greater Nebraska.
The 76-year-old’s experience has primarily been in business, estate planning, and real estate. Orr has been directly involved in the facilitation of many major commercial and residential developments in the Kearney area. Through this type of practice, he has had a significant impact upon Kearney’s growth.
Orr has previously served as commissioner for the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations and judge of the Nebraska Court of Industrial Relations. He has also played a prominent role in groups and organizations working for the betterment of Buffalo County and the Kearney community. Orr has served as Chairman of the Board of the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, worked to promote business growth as a member of the Buffalo County Economic Development Council, and has received significant recognition for his involvement with the transition of Kearney State College to become the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Dan Lindstrom, managing shareholder at Jacobsen Orr, commented on Orr’s practice milestone and impact on the community: “To his clients and the legal community at large, Jeff Orr has been a trusted and respected lawyer and friend. To those of us who were mentored by him in the practice of law, he represents the kind of practical approach to problem-solving and no-nonsense clarity of thought that has influenced the firm’s approach with clients today. He has been a guiding force in terms of the community involvement ethic that exists at Jacobsen Orr.”
To mark this golden anniversary, a celebration will be held at the World Theater in downtown Kearney on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
